There is no doubt in my mind that if the moon has the power to pull the tides, surely it must affect us. Our bodies are made mostly of water, and just as the phases of the moon affect the waters of the world, they can also affect the waves of our own emotional seas.

The Moon is the closest planetary body to us on Earth, and it has long been known to have an effect on everything from the tides, agriculture, fishing, hair growth, moods, energy levels, and much more. Many believe and have experienced firsthand that emotions and energy levels during different phases of the Moon run high… By paying attention to the phases of the moon throughout the entire lunar cycle, you can be more in rhythm with the natural world, and in sync with the divine nature of time.

The Sun, Moon, planets, and stars have provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout history. All cultures before recorded history charted the heavenly skies to make sense out of their environment. Our own calendar months are roughly equal to the time it takes to go from one full Moon to the next.

For centuries, humans have followed the Moon's cycles to determine when to plant and harvest crops; planting during a particular lunar cycle determines what the crop will yield, and often how much it will yield. The Farmer's Almanac publishes a Lunar Planting Calendar as well as a Fishing Calendar each year. which highlights the ideal times for both activities. All of our activities, whether for work, rest or play were in harmony with the flow of "Mother Nature," the changing of seasons, the rising and setting of the Sun and Moon and the phases the Moon passed through in a month.

The early Native Americans did not record time by using the months of the calendar we use today. Many tribes kept track of time by observing the seasons and lunar months, although there was much variability. Many tribes named the full Moons based on a description relating to a particular activity/event that usually occurred during that time in their location. The full Moon names for 2017 are:

January- Wolf Moon

February- Snow Moon

March- Worm Moon

April- Pink Moon

May- Flower Moon

June- Strawberry Moon

July-Buck Moon

August-Sturgeon Moon

September-Corn Moon

Placing water out under the Moon creates water that carries the energy of the Moon. If you want to heighten the influence of the moon (or of a particular moon) in your life, this is a great way to do it. Utilizing this water and its many benefits will also help you adapt to seasonal changes as well as to the energy shifts that are taking place.

Of all the Moon phases, the New Moon and Full Moon are the most dynamic. The time between the Full Moon and the New Moon, when the light is diminishing, is perfect for releasing that which no longer serves you. Use this window of opportunity to go within and decide what you want to let go of in your life.

The time between the New Moon and the Full Moon, when the light is increasing, is perfect for potential, the peak of clarity, fullness and obtainment of desire. Use this window of opportunity for putting your intentions of increase into action.

The energies of the lunar cycle correlate with a full manifestation course, and so being conscious of the present phase of the moon can help you to rev-up your intentions, and support you with energetic backing. Paying attention and connecting to the phases of the moon throughout the lunar cycle, can aid you in reviving and embodying your innate cyclic nature. Lunar energy is useful for many other benefits such as cleansing and recharging your body, mind, spirit and home. Put the power of the Moon to work for you!
